SV in TrikonasamaSusan Valentine began her yoga practice in earnest at the tender age of 38; not a moment too soon, though it's never too late! Now, in her 50's, she recognizes it as a lifetime practice.  It is her mission to share the many benefits yoga can bring to body, mind, spirit and comunity with the folks of the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts.
SV photoIn Susan's classes we're encouraged to "start where we are", appreciating our body's idiosyncrasies as the richness of life --to be valued highly.  She cultivates a sense of ease and humor, light, and a sense of the spiritual in our practice.  Susan has over 10 years of training and experience in the art of teaching yoga classes and workshops.

While she holds a Kripalu Teacher Certification, Susan has spent several years studying the principles of Anusara Yoga with John Friend and some of his senior teachers. Blending the two schools of Yoga, Susan loves how they produce a deeply physical and heartfelt practice.

Susan is also a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist, is certified to teach the deeper practices of Kripalu Yoga and practices Thai Yoga Bodywork.

The profound physical healing that Susan has received from the practice of yoga starts with freedom of movement in her spine. Previous to practicing yoga, from the age of 13, she spent a few weeks of every year experiencing or recuperating from acute and chronic back muscle spasms. When she wasn't completely incapacitated, her movement was painful and limited. Due to the powerful medicinal aspects of yoga asanas she moves through life these days with comfort and ease - and posesses a mountain of compassion for those in pain.

She was one of the principal teachers at the Northampton Yoga Center in the mid to late 90's and from there came to realize her dream of directing her own studio in September of '99. Conveniently located in the heart of the Valley, Route 9 in Hadley, you'll find The Hadley Yoga Studio one mile west of Whole Foods, across the street from the Comfort Inn.
